Welcome to the
Good Morning All:
In action last night Point Pleasant Boro lost to Broad Street Park Post 313 7-1. This ends Boro's great season and outstanding representation of Ocean County in the State Tournament. I cannot say enough of how much we appreciate the great effort made by the players and coaches of this team in this extremely tough tournament.
That concludes our 2017 season. On behalf of the Ocean County American Legion Executive Committee I want to thank all the teams that participated. Have a great summer and thanks for playing American Legion Baseball.
I'm proud to announce that Point Pleasant Boro is our 2017 Ocean County American Legion Baseball Champions. Congratulations to Coach Dave Drew, his staff, the players and loyal parents. The games final score was 9-3 and Point Boro pitcher Andrew Laspina (picture attached) was voted the games MVP. Boro now moves on to the State Tournament where play begins Saturday. The sight they will play at and who they will be playing will be decided on come Thursday. I will let everyone know as soon as I hear.
I also want to congratulate Toms River South Post 129 and Coach Dave Fanslau on a great season and all of his help with hosting last nights game. Our season went well with no major problems except for some unfortunate weather that canceled 3 games after they started. I was also disappointed that we could not send another team to the state tournament after being offered two slots. This leaves a bad mark on Ocean County and is something I wish would never happen. The competition with travel ball always gets us. To continue playing as we do in the future we need firmer commitments from the players, especially when Legion Posts front all the fees for them to play.
Also pictured is Ocean County Commander Tony Gladden throwing out the first pitch. The Commander actually reached home plate and made up for his disappointing "first pitch" last year.
My sincere thanks to all the coaches, OCALB Vice-Chairman Ray Miller, and to the Ocean County American Legion for allowing me to chair this great program.
Good Morning All:
We had two very exciting and closely contested games last night in our Ocean County American Legion Baseball Playoff Tournament that were partly played in the rain and with overcast skies;
At Pinelands Regional High School, it was a pitchers duel and all about great defense as Point Pleasant Boro squeezed out a 1-0 victory over Mystic Island Post 493/Pinelands. The game took nine innings to complete and it's a shame one team had to lose.
At Manchester High School, Toms River South Post 129 held on to beat a very tough Manchester team 9-5. This game was almost the complete opposite of the game at Pinelands as there was plenty of hitting.
Here's the recap;
Scores from Thursday - July 6: (County Playoffs)
Point Pleasant Boro (1) - Mystic Island Post 493/Pinelands (0) 9 innings
Toms River South Post 129 (9) - Manchester (5)
